Hello everyone! I apologize for disappearing for so long. I finished up my first semester of school on May 10. By some miracle (okay, it's b/c I actually did all my homework assignments and quizzes), I got a B in accounting. Unfortunately, I still don't feel like I have a fabulous grip on it. (I was hoping I'd get a bit of a refresher when I started accounting II, but no such luck, as you'll read below.) I had a two-week break from school, and then started the summer semester on the 23rd. I signed up for 3 classes - one online class which goes until the middle of August, and two in-person classes every Mon-Thurs from 10-12, and 12:15-2:45 until June 23.
But my accounting II (the second M-Th class) teacher was horrible. She's one of those teachers that doesn't actually teach. She'd break the class up into groups, assign problems for us to work on, and leave the room. She also assigned massive amounts of homework, and only went over it if someone actually requested she go over a specific problem. I decided I need a real professor who actually explains things, and I withdrew from the class. So now I just have the first class (Business Law II) 4 days a week from 10 to 12 and the online class ("Electronic Spreadsheets" which teaches Microsoft Excel, and luckily I'm pretty good with that program lol).
I'm still working on my writing, slowly (very) but surely. I have a little over 5k written in my current WIP. Unfortunately I still have a problem motivating myself to write, and motivating myself to stick with any kind of schedule. I'll keep working on it ;-)
Also, I'm excited to be going to RWA Nationals in a few weeks! At first I didn't think I'd be able to make it. I applied for a scholarship but unfortunately I didn't get chosen. Apparently there were three times as many applicants this year than in prior years. (But the economy is getting better, right? HAH!) But then my boyfriend offered to pay half the conference fee for me, and I knew I couldn't pass up that offer! Since it's in NYC this year, I can take the train there and save on hotel fees. (This is one of the rare times it actually pays to live on Long Island, LOL.) Even though I don't have a manuscript to pitch, I love the RWA workshops. And hopefully I'll be able to overcome my shyness and do a little networking too.
That about covers everything I've been up to lately. I hope everyone enjoyed their spring and is (almost) ready for summer! If you're going to RWA this year too, let me know. Maybe we can meet up before a workshop or something. 'Till next time...
